If there was one word that described my 2014 it might just have to be makeup… (not so good for the wallet). However I felt like I explored the world of makeup much more this past year, I love playing around with beauty products and I always look forward to trying a new look each morning. Not only did I try a whole bunch of new products, but I really found my “go to” products this year. So here are my favourite beauty picks for 2014! Let me know what your favourite products from 2014 are. I love hearing about new products!
Nars Tinted Moisturizer / Giorgio Armani Foundation / Urban Decay Eye Primer / Cover Girl Mascara / Rimmel Concealer / MAC Concealer / Anastasia Brow Pencil / MAC Brow Highlight (in Shroom) / Smashbox Eye Palette (similar here) / Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette
Without a doubt this years “lifesaver” product would have to be the Nars tinted moisturizer. This can be built up or can be quickly applied with your fingers while rushing out the door (guilty). It gives just enough coverage to balance your skin and hide any small blemishes! Like the Nars tinted moisturizer, the Cover Girl mascara is the perfect thing to swipe on when rushing to leave the house! This particular mascara is probably my favourite beauty product on this list. I’ve tried a wide range of mascara’s (high and low price points) but no matter what I always go back to this one!
Essie Nail Polish / OPI Nail Polish / Nicole by OPI Drying Drops / Carmex Lip Balm / Becca Highlighter / theBalm Highlighter / Benefit Bronzer / Becca Blush (in Flowerchild) / Milani Blush (in Berry Amore) / NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (in Milan & Sao Paulo)
Since living in Canada means cold weather for a good part of the year, which usually means dry skin and chapped lips, it’s pretty important to have a good chap stick. I tried this Carmex one a few years ago and have yet to find anything that’s better! When the winter months roll around here I always feel like my skin is so dull and lacklustre. One of the best fixes for this (besides a tropical vacation…) is a good highlighter. Not only is it great to add colour to your skin with bronzer or blush, but adding some highlight can really brighten up your appearance and give you a nice dewy look. My two favourites this year have been from Becca and theBalm.
Sonia Kashuk Brushes (similar here) / Cover Girl Jumbo Gloss Balm (in Jam Twist & Watermelon Twist) / Maybelline Matte Lipstick (in Lush For Blush) / Maybelline Vivid Lipstick (in Vivid Rose) / Milani Lipstick (in Plumrose)
One of the most important parts of makeup is how you apply it. More specifically having the proper tools to apply makeup can make a huge difference. I never put too much thought into how I applied my makeup before, but after reading and watching (many) youtube videos, I began to realize how much good brushes can make a difference. And you know what’s even better? Good brushes at reasonable prices! Enter Sonia Kashuk (sold at Target). They have an amazing selection of brushes, and I was able to snag their one of their 25th Anniversary sets!
