April Favourites

Tangle Teezer / Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick / Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Brush / Maybelline Lipsticks

Tangle Teezer: I was a little skeptical when I first got this and wasn’t sure if I’d really use it or not. I try not to brush my hair often, and when I do I usually use a wide tooth comb. However, recently my hair has been insanely tangly and dry, and the Tangle Teezer has been the only thing that can actually take the tangles out. It’s so gentle and doesn’t make me feel like I’m ripping my hair out. Hopefully these tangles will go away soon with the help of some new products I’ve started using but I’ll share more of that on the blog later, so stay tuned!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick: This is an oldie but definitely a goodie! I used this shimmer brick a bunch when I first bought it and than it slowly moved to the back of my drawer. I reached for it after my trip to Florida, since I had a good tan and thought this would compliment it nicely. Ever since then I’ve been using it everyday and I remember just why I bought it. It bronzes, gives a nice colour to your cheeks and more importantly gives you the nicest highlight and glow.

Anastasia Brown Brush: I picked this brush up a few weeks ago when I realized the one I had been using was just too thick. I love that this brush is very thin, which makes it easy to fill in your brows and that the other end has a spooley to blend and brush through your brows.

Maybelline Matte Lipsticks: A few months ago Maybelline released a line of matte lipsticks in a few different shade. I picked a few of those up and instantly fell in love. Luckily, they recently released more colours and I of course ran to the store to grab a few more shades! The colours of these lipsticks are so pigmented and the formula is creamy and doesn’t dry your lips out like some other matte lipsticks. I highly suggest giving these a try and since they’re drugstore products you don’t have to feel bad grabbing two… or three different shades!

March Favourites

Marc Jacobs Daisy Rollerball / Urban Decay Lip Pencil in Turn On / SST Cosmetics Lipstick in Drama Queen / Becca Highlighter

This past month I’ve found that I’ve really stuck to my tried and true beauty products. I’ve gotten in to somewhat of a routine with my everyday makeup, consisting of a heavier look for those days where I’m headed out or meeting friends and than a softer more natural look for running errands. Whether it’s a full face of makeup or a lighter more natural look, these four products pictured above have been in heavy rotation for both looks this month!

Marc Jacobs Daisy Rollerball: I’ve had this perfume for quite some time, and actually purchased the rollerball version first, before forking out the money for the full bottle. I’ve since tossed the rollerball aside since I now have the bottle for all my perfume needs. However, this past month I’ve found myself reaching for the rollerball version and tossing it in my purse or overnight bag more and more. Not only is this hands down my favourite scent and go to perfume, but I love how easy it is to travel with the rollerball, or have it handy to freshen up throughout the day. I highly suggest looking in to a rollerball version of your favourite perfume!

Urban Decay Lip Pencil in Turn On: In the fall I had been looking for a lip colour whether that be a pencil, gloss or lipstick that was almost the shade of my lips, but slightly darker and more brown (thank you Kylie Jenner). I was able to find a decent match for that in the Makeup Forever Lip Pencil in Light Rosewood . However, now that spring has finally arrived I’ve been leaning towards much brighter pink colours and have found myself wanting a lip colour that again is almost the shade of my lips but a bit more pink and bright. This Urban Decay one caught my eye on a quick trip to Sephora and I’ve been in love ever since. It’s a great pink shade that’s perfect for spring and summer!

SST Cosmetics Lipstick in Drama Queen: I was fortunate enough to try out the SST Cosmetics lipstick this past month and really didn’t know what to expect when I received it. I hadn’t heard of this makeup brand before, but was excited to find out that they are a Canadian brand (yay for supporting Canadian talent). What was even better, was that the lipstick was actually so amazing. The formula is perfect, and the lipstick is almost a soft matte but is so smooth and hydrating. I’m also in love with this light pink shade and I know it will be one of my go to colours for spring and summer!

Becca Highlighter: I purchased one of these highlighters last summer in the shade Opal and instantly fell in love. However, the past few months I wasn’t as crazy about it and couldn’t really figure out why. I then realized it was definitely because my oh so pale skin needed a lighter shade than the Opal colour I was using. So, I purchased the lighter Moonstone shade and have fallen back in love with Becca highlighters. They blend so well and a little goes a long way! I love applying some to the tops of my cheeks and to my brow bone.

February Favourites

This months favourites are products that I’ve had for a while (minus the Lancome Mascara) and I’ve really realized how much I love them this past month. These products are slowly becoming some of my staples in my makeup collection and what’s even better is that most of them are all from the drugstore! Yay for saving money….. and then going out and buying more makeup (anyone else with this problem?). Let me know any products that you guys have loved in the month of February! I always love hearing about new products!

Sonia Kashuk Brush (similar here) / Lancome Mascara / CoverGirl Lipstick in Euphoria / Milani Blush in Berry Amore

Sonia Kashuk Brush: This brush was from their Fall Anniversary set. I’ve had it for a while now, but have only really started using it this past month. It’s become my favourite brush to apply my bronzer and use for a light contour. I’m still getting used to contouring and only do it on days where I want a full face of makeup. This brush has been great for learning and slowly easing in to contouring. I apply my bronzer with it in a line on the hollows of my cheeks (suck in your cheeks and you can see the natural line from your ear to mouth). I then use a smaller brush to blend it out. It’s been working pretty well and I love that it gives a more natural look.

Lancome Mascara: Ok, I might have mentioned this before, but I’m a bit of a mascara snob. I always think I like to try new mascaras and will reach for new samples or testers. However, after trying them a few times I always regret purchasing them and go back to my tried and true CoverGirl Mascara (my holy grail). So, of course when I had heard so much about this Lancome mascara I just had to give it a shot. At first I was honestly not impressed and again went back to my CoverGirl mascara. However, I made myself try it again and guys I think I might have found a new favourite. This mascara is amazing, it makes your lashes longer and gives them crazy volume. I’m still on the fence if it’s worth the $40 or so dollars for it, so I’ll get back to you on that!

CoverGirl Lipstick: I honestly don’t even remember when I bought this lipstick… I think sometime in the fall? But I rediscovered it this month and have been loving it. It has such a great colour and I love that I can make it really strong or just dab it on my lips a few times for a light stained look.

Milani Blush: This is another product I’ve been using for the past few months but never knew how I really felt about it. However, I was applying it the other day and realized just how much I love it. I’ve been really loving more purple toned makeup colours this winter, and this blush gives off an amazing plum colour. It also has some bronzer and highlight to it, which is perfect for winter since my skin needs all the colour it can get! (If you’re in Canada and looking for Milani products, I found mine at the Superstore)

January Favourites

Urban Decay Chill Setting Spray / NARS Foundation / Laura Mercier Primer / Smashbox Cream Eyeshadow (in Riches)

I’m so excited to start my monthly favourites again this year! I can’t believe we’re already at the end of January. This month has flown by, but I remembered to keep track of the products I’ve been loving this past month. Some of these I’ve had for a while and have fallen back in love with them and some are new to my makeup routine! I love trying new products and seeing what works and what doesn’t work. Leave a comment below to let me know your favourites from this past month or any suggestions of products I should try!

Jan. Favourites1

Setting Spray: I started using this in the summer and rediscovered it again this past month. I love that it not only makes your makeup last longer but leaves your skin with a great glow after spraying it on your face. I’ve also started spraying it on my foundation brush before apply my foundation and find that it really helps it go on better.

NARS Foundation: Over the past month or so, I was really wanting to find a more dewy foundation. Since we are in the middle of winter, my skin is a little lack lustre to say the least. So I figured a luminous foundation (and some highlighter) might help my skin and overall complexion. I decided on the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation after hearing many great things about it. So far I’ve been loving it and the glow it gives my skin after I’ve applied it is amazing. I will say that I’ve noticed it applies a lot nicer after I’ve exfoliated as it can cling to dry spots.

Laura Mercier Primer: I got this primer as a sample from Sephora months ago and honestly never gave it much thought. A few weeks ago it caught my eye since I’m all about that glowy/dewy look right now (or trying to create it). The results have been great. My foundation lasts longer and stays in place and you can notice a slight glow after putting on your foundation. I’ve tried a few luminous primers and this one is definitely at the top of my list.

Smashbox Cream Eyeshadow: I purchased this cream eyeshadow right before New Years Eve after seeing a few girls wear similar ones. I never gave cream eyeshadow much thought and even strayed away from it a bit. But after trying this one and playing around with it, I can say that I really love it. I apply it all over my eyelid and then add some darker powder shadow to my crease. It cuts my eye makeup time in half and is such a quick and easy way to finish off your eyes. I also bought a Maybelline cream eyeshadow and it’s very similar to the Smashbox one and about half the price!

September Faves

Can you believe September has already come and gone? Talk about fastest month ever! And with the start of a new month I thought I’d share my favourite things from September. September to me is always so much more of a fresh start, I think it goes back to when you started school. I always feel like it’s the start of a new year much more than New Years, anyone else feel this way? So with the fresh start and the beginning of fall, I gathered up a few of my favourite beauty products, fashion buys and other fun things that I’ve been loving this month!

Becca ‘Flowerchild’ Blush: I first discovered Becca because of their ever popular and in demand highlighter (here). Seriously, if you are lucky to find one of their highlighters in store buy it right away! I searched and searched for mine! But it was well worth it. Since I feel in love with their highlighter I decided to give one of their blushes a try and have been loving it so much. It’s a great transition colour from summer to fall and it has just the slightest shimmer which I personally love.

Marc Jacob’s Perfume: Let me start this off with saying that I am not really a perfume person. I love smelling good (obviously) but never seem to find a perfume I really love. I’m not a fan of strong perfumes, or ones that have a lot of citrus or vanilla notes. So, luckily for me one day I was given a sample of this perfume from Sephora and fell in love. The perfume is very light and has a refreshing fruity smell to it.

Sally Hansen Nail Stickers: If you’ve been following my past few blog posts you’ll know from this video how much I have fallen in love with nail stickers. I’ve been using the Sally Hansen nail stickers lately and love how quick and easy they are to apply. My favourite pattern so far is definitely ‘Sweet Marble Floret’.

Chapters/Indigo Fall Candle: What is fall without some yummy smelling candles? I rushed to Chapters when I realized they had their fall candles out again. I discovered the Cinnamon Mulled Cider candle last year and lets just say I was smart about it this year and may have stocked up on them… no seriously I think I have enough to last until next fall… But it is honestly the most perfect smelling candle for fall. The name says it all, it really does smell like cinnamon and apple cider. Yum.

Zara Scarf: Zara blanket scarves have been making their comeback again this year, and I am definitely guilty of buying one or two of them. However, when I was at Zara last I came across this scarf and fell in love. I’m a sucker for a leopard print and I love that this one is a more subdued leopard print. The scarf is also so soft, which is perfect for fall when all you want to be is cozy and warm!

Kate Spade Rings (similar): Back in August we took a little trip to NYC for a few days. One of my must go to stores is always Kate Spade. When I was there I came across these simple bow rings. They come in a set of four (gold, diamond, rose gold & silver). I love how simple and thin they are and I especially love that they are tiny bows. If there’s one thing you should know it’s that Nicole + Bows is always a likely combination.
