1. UNPLUG MORE
Lately I’ve been forgetting my phone at home when we’re headed out. Even though at the time I’m kind of annoyed by that fact, I have actually started to enjoy this. It’s so nice to not have your phone around you sometimes. I find these are the times I can really focus on what I’m doing or the person I’m with. It’s so nice to have no distractions and just enjoy the moment. Instead of forgetting my phone this month, I’m going to try to purposefully leave it behind and really enjoy and take in whatever that day or night has in store.
2. CONTACT OTHER BLOGGERS
One of my favourite things about having this blog (and Instagram) is the connections and new friends I’ve been able to make. It definitely is the best part of the blogging world and this month I want to deepen those connections by reaching out to a few other blogger friends. Hopefully we can we even plan some fun things to work on together!
3. GET OUTSIDE MORE
Last weekend we were dog sitting (my favourite thing) and I forgot how nice it can be to take a mid day or dinner time walk. Even though the past few weeks I’ve wanted to be anywhere but outside (hello -25°C weather), I really want to make it a priority this month to get outside more. Luckily the temperatures are starting to get warmer so going outside doesn’t seem as daunting and miserable. Sometimes theres nothing better than a walk to clear your head and refocus.
4. BAKE HEALTHY TREATS
I suddenly got the urge to bake a few weekends ago (I haven’t in so long) and I truly forgot how much I missed it. I really do enjoy baking, but have not bothered with it lately. I think I really limit myself because since it’s just Matt and I, and then you bake 24 cookies…. well you can do the math. That’s a whole lot of eating cookies. Which I’m really ok with, but I’d so much prefer if they were slightly healthy. I’ve been obsessed with cookies from a local vegan bake shop that have no flour or sugar. These really got me thinking about different recipes and ways to bake so that I can still enjoy them and not feel guilty if I do eat them all! I’ll be sure to share any great healthy recipes I find!
If you’re new to style-of-living.com than this series might be unfamiliar to some of you. However, it is one of my favourite series and hopefully you’ll enjoy it too! Each month I create a small to do list for myself, mainly based around things I’d like to do this month. I try to make the focus of this list a bit more fun than the usual to do list which wouldn’t be so exciting for you guys. I don’t think you care to see my long to do list of grocery shopping, responding to emails and so on. So, this list is to encourage myself and hopefully some of you to get out and try new things, and it’s also a great way to stay accountable for any resolutions or goals you’ve set this year! So here is my February To Do List, please let me know what’s on your list for this month!
1. TRY ONE NEW RECIPE A WEEK
I’ve really changed my eating habits over the past few months and I am trying to keep that up. I love looking through Pinterest (you can follow me here) for new recipes and things to try. So for the month of February, instead of just pinning a recipe or idea I want to actually make it. My goal is to try one new recipe a week!
2. MASTER THE PERFECT CUP OF COFFEE
If you know me, than you know I am a loyal and avid tea drinker. Even though I absolutely love the smell and taste of coffee, it tends to not love me back. Having a small cup of coffee is usually followed with a nice headache and shaky hands. Not so fun, especially as you are sitting down to write a 3 hour exam… true story. However, I’ve recently been pushing my luck (such a rebel) and having a small cup here and there and with no side effects! So I’ve decided I’d really like to be able to make a great cup of coffee for those few afternoons where I just need an extra push to the end of the day. We don’t have a coffee machine in our house (we have drip coffee or a french press), so I feel like I have to actually try and learn how to make a decent cup. The goal this month is to master the perfect cup of coffee and to really try to eliminate the sugar and cream I put in it.
3. ORGANIZE CLOSETS & CUPBOARDS
I feel like this to do could be on the list every single month. Does anyone else organize their closets and cupboards to only have them totally a mess a month or two later? Hopefully this time around I can really get them under control and create a system that works for us. I do love organizing my closet because you also find clothes or things you might have forgotten about and you can donate or toss anything you don’t need anymore. It’s really a win win!
4. FIND A NEW BOOK TO READ
I wouldn’t consider myself an avid reader. I enjoy reading books, but I find it takes me a lot to get in to a new book. There’s really only a handful of books that appeal to me and that I’ve read from start to finish. However, I do love when I get in to a new book and how it can transport you to another time and place. So, this month I’m going to do a little research and hopefully find (and finish) a new book. Leave any suggestions or ideas down below of books you’ve been loving lately!
Since summer officially starts in a few days I thought it would be the perfect time to share my summer to do list! These are a few simple and fun things (in no particular order) that I hope to do this summer. Keep your eye on this list throughout summer as I’ll be editing it once I check an item off the list! I hope you enjoy and let me know what’s on your to do list this summer! Yay for summer and yay for more ice cream cones like the one pictured above!
Can you guys believe it’s already April? It makes me so excited that the sun is out most days, days are longer and it’s getting just a bit warmer! I love this time of year so much, I always feel way more energized and motivated to get things done! Speaking of which, here are a few things I’m hoping to do this month:
First on my list is redecorating and rearranging my house! For over a little while now we had been going back and forth on whether or not we should move (we have zero storage space here). After thinking about all our options (and yes making a pros and cons list…) we decided it makes more sense to stay. I’m actually really glad we made that decision because it was such a valuable lesson to learn (which ties in with the quote below), that you can be content and happy with what you have, you just need to look for it. A month ago I couldn’t of been out of this place faster, but after really thinking about what our current place offers and the differences between other places, it made me realize that I need to focus more on being content with what I have! So I’ve reorganized the closets, decided on new pillows and rearranged some furniture and I am so happy with the results (more to come on that)!
Since the sun stays out later now, it makes doing things at night that much easier. I feel like in winter you can get in to a slump of having dinner and perching yourself in front of the TV for the rest of the night. I’ve already noticed since it stays light until at least 7 now, that we have been way more productive and have been more likely to go out after dinner. One of the first things on my list, once it was warm enough, was to go for a bike ride. We went for so many last summer and I absolutely loved it. You get some good exercise but it’s also just really enjoyable and reminds me of all those times I’d hop on my bike and just go wherever when I was younger!
Linking back to my first To Do, being content with what I have is going to be a big focus not only this month but hopefully for a long time to come. I feel like it is so easy to loose sight of what we have when it seems like everyone else has the newest, greatest and latest thing. Obviously you want that new shinny thing too! But when you really think about it, you probably can make do with what you have and a lot of the time it’s just as good or better. I know I am guilty of buying things I probably don’t need (hence the large bag of clothes I just donated) and I am really going to focus on that this month, and hey hopefully it will save me some money too! It’s a win win!
The other day I came across the Easter card section in Chapters and found some absolutely adorable cards. I decided to buy a few and am determined to send them out in time for Easter! I love the idea of sending snail mail and think it’s such a special treat when you receive something in the mail that you weren’t expecting. So I have a few cards and stamps ready to be dropped off at the post office!
I hope your week is off to a good start! We are off to a basketball game tonight and meeting some friends for drinks before! So it should be a good Wednesday! I hope yours is too!
